Campsite near Hyères

Visit Hyères, an exceptional area near our Six Fours campsite

If you’re looking for a unique southern destination to visit on the Côte d’Azur, Hyères is the place for you! Just 30 km east of the Toulon campsite, towards St Tropez, lies the popular town of Hyères. It’s an upscale tourist destination with a pleasant lifestyle and breathtaking scenery. Also known as “the gateway to Provence”, this picturesque town in the Var region is packed with things to see. Among them, discover the lively port and its many beaches in view of its special seaside location or its medieval historic heart in the hills. Indeed, the town has a rich history and is famous for its old town, its harbor and the Giens peninsula on the Golden Isles.

What to do in and around Hyères

1) Visit the old town

With its narrow streets and colorful houses, you’ll soon be charmed by the beauty of this town with its Corsican and Italian influences. Passing through the Porte de Massillon and the Tour des Templiers, you’ll discover monuments that bear witness to their history. La Villa Noailles a must-see, contrasts these landscapes with its modern architecture and interesting exhibitions. In fact, you can find many of their events at our campsite near Toulon.

2) Take in the sights at Le Vieux Château

Now in ruins, this listed castle was built in the 11th century on the heights of Hyères as an observation point and military defense. These remains offer a breathtaking view of the entire bay and the city’s peninsula.

3) Stroll through Provence’s gardens and markets

Provence markets are a veritable institution in the Provence Côte d’Azur region. They highlight both the flavors and colors of the region. Let yourself be tempted by the conviviality of the South among the many markets in the town center, or by Hyères’ well-kept gardens such asOlbius Riquier.

4) Swim on one of Hyères’ 30 beaches

Like Bandol and its neighboring communes on the Mediterranean coast, near the Toulon campsite, Hyères boasts a multitude of beaches for dream vacations. We can only recommend the best-known of these, the immense Almanarre beach, to enjoy its gentle waters. For your family, safer beaches such as Capte or Les Salins are more suitable.

5) Stroll along the coastal path

Further south, Hyères extends to the Giens peninsula, where hiking enthusiasts will be delighted. In fact, the unspoilt natural landscape, both wild and lively, stretches for over 30km to the small village of Giens and the Tour Fondue . From here, you’ll enjoy magnificent views over the island of Porquerolles.

6) Take a boat to the Porquerolles islands

Another not-to-be-missed part of your camping holiday near Hyères is a visit to the island of Porquerolles, or Ile d’Hyères. Of all the îles d’Or, which include Porquerolles, Port-Cros and Le Levant, it is the largest. Extend your walk along the coastal path and take a boat from the Tour Fondue, the only access to the island. You’ll be blown away by its sandy beaches and turquoise waters. Numerous hiking trails, sporting activities and facilities await you on site.

7) Take an excursion to the wild island of Port-Cros

To the east of the Hyères peninsula are the isolated islands of Port-Cros and Le Levant. To get there, take the shuttle bus from Hyères’ main port, Port Saint Pierre, and allow an hour for the journey. This island is ideal for nature lovers, where you can stroll through the national park on foot to enjoy the unspoilt ecosystem. From hiking trails to scuba diving discoveries, everything is taken care of to give you the full Mediterranean experience.

8) Discover the seaside resorts on the way to our campsite six four les plages

Take the road to Toulon, where you’ll discover the seaside resorts of La Seyne Sur Mer and Six Fours Les Plages. Need more ideas? Continue your journey along the Mediterranean coast to Bandol! You can enjoy its grape varieties and the Paul Ricard islands, which are more peaceful and quiet than their neighboring îles d’Or. The Côte d’Azur is full of surprises that you’ll want to discover when you stay at our year-round campsite in the Var.
